To feed consumer demand for video (and to get more mileage out of existing content), The New York Times has launched “TimesCast,” a daily video which summarizes the “big news stories of the day,” according to their website.
Viewers not only get to watch senior editors discuss the issues of the day, but also get a behind-the-scenes look at Times editorial meetings, and get a glimpse into what is coming down the pipe for print.
This approach uses the video platform to create innovative, fresh content, instead of trying to break news or even translate a print component. Instead, it introduces us to the personalities who decide what’s newsworthy, and certifies The New York Times as a multi-media broadcaster.
“It’s not just straight, breaking news, it’s talking about the way the New York Times is looking at the story – our analysis, our particular take on the story,” said Ann Derry, the paper’s editorial director for video and television according to The New York Times.
